Learners who need to have a qualification in Paediatric First Aid for their job role should undertake the new stand alone qualification in Paediatric First Aid from September 1st 2014.

The older PFA units below expire on 31/12/14, They also appear as optional units in the Level 2 Diploma CCLD, Level 3 Diploma CCLD and Level 3 Diploma Maternity/Paediatric Support, and they will not be replaced after their expiry.

Paediatric First Aid and EMERGENCY Paediatric First Aid in Wales
A proposal is currently before the Care Council for Wales to introduce a Level 3 Award in EMERGENCY Paediatric First Aid in Wales (QCF). It is also before the regulators in England and Scotland. The Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales (CSSIW) must approve its use before it can be awarded in Wales. Employers and training providers should check that the qualification they are proposing to use meets the Care Council’s minimum requirement. Until there is further guidance from CCSIW, there is a risk that learners in Wales might undertake the wrong qualification for their job role, or a qualification approved in England but not in Wales. The only QCF paediatric first aid qualification approved for use in Wales from September 1st 2014 is the Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (QCF) . This is offered by a range of QCF awarding organisations who worked together to develop it and to standardise the quality assurance practice.

If the Level 3 Award in EMERGENCY Paediatric First Aid (QCF) is approved for use in Wales Agored Cymru will offer it.
All qualifications that assess occupational competency for vocational areas within sectors 1.2 and 1.3 must adhere to the Skills for Health Assessment Principles for Qualifications that Assess Occupational Competence
