This course focuses on the implementation of Sex and relationships (SRE) in schools. It is suitable for individuals leading on sex and relationships education in schools, for example, personal and social education co-ordinators, and visiting organisations that support SRE delivery in schools.
Resource materials will be available on the day and are included in the costs.
At the end of this session, participants will understand:
- learner wellbeing and learning environment management (disclosure, anonymity, confidentiality, setting ground rules, professional boundaries)
- common barriers when delivering SRE
- the benefits of delivering good SRE (dispelling myths)
- good practice when delivering sex and relationships education (distancing techniques, ground rules, use of terminology, not using shock tactics, no personal questions)
- good practice when coordinating and delivering SRE in schools (governors, parents/carers, learners, policy)
- legislation including the Fraser Guidelines
- how to deliver SRE exemplar exercises for sexual development and legislation
- how to signpost young people to support their sexual health needs and issues
- the recommendations from the Welsh Government SRE review
