Carys Swain

Carys Swain joined the Board in 2017 as an appointed member.

Carys Swain has over 15 years' experience within the Further Education Sector. She was Curriculum Area Manager for Skills for Adults, ESOL and Welsh at Bridgend College. She was previously Welsh and bilingualism Manager and is currently Learner Services Manager.

Carys is a passionate believer in Further Education and Lifelong Learning. She has been responsible for developing and delivering Family Learning and community provision in Bridgend, giving adults opportunities to gain essential skills qualifications as well as teaching them how to support their children at school.

Carys has consistently contributed to the work of developing opportunities for young people and staff to use their Welsh language skills within Further Education. She is a member of the ColegauCymru Bilingual Champions Network and the South East Wales Cross Border Fforwm. Carys was a member of the Welsh Government’s Ministerial Advisory Group on the first Strategy for Welsh Medium Education. She is also a member of the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol’s Academic Board.

Carys has an M.A. in Leadership and Management (FE) as well as a PGCE. She is a member of the Education Workforce Council. She is also the Leader of Adran ac Aelwyd yr Urdd Porthcawl which was set up over a decade ago to provide opportunities for children and young people to meet and socialise through the medium of Welsh.
