Training and Events

This is a 2.5 hour and a half hour interactive session designed as an introduction to the principles and practices of internal quality assurance.  You are required to complete a short pre-course activity which will help you prepare for the session.

At the end of this course, attendants will:

• understand the basic principles of internal quality assurance;
• understand the role of the internal quality assurer;
• learn how to record outcomes of internal quality assurance; and
• have the skills to effectively internally quality assure Agored Cymru units and qualifications. (please refer to the relevant qualification guide to check specific IQA requirements)

Please note: to be eligible to attend this course you must have either:

1. experience of assessment; or,
2. attended the (Agored Cymru) Introduction to Assessment course.

This is a non-accredited course but you will receive a certificate of attendance.

This course is suitable for any recognised Agored Cymru Centre staff who are new to Internal Quality Assurance of Agored Cymru units/qualifications or as a refresher for Agored  Cymru IQA's who have not carried out IQA activities recently.

Newly approved centres are entitled to a total of 4 free places on either the Introduction to Assessment or Introduction to IQA sessions (or a combination of both), which must be used within the first 12 months.

IQA's do not currently need to have a formal IQA qualification to IQA Agored Cymru units/qualifications, unless stated in the qualification guide or unit specification.  However, Agored Cymru strongly recommends that IQA's work towards formal accreditation. (e.g. Level 4 Award in Understanding the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice)

Michelle Birkin

Michelle shares responsibility with the other Quality Manager for managing, conducting and leading on CASS across Agored Cymru approved centres. Michelle also acts as lead quality liaison officer across centres as appropriate.
