Details

This is a 2.5 hour interactive session designed as an introduction to the principles and practices of high quality assessment.  You are required to complete a short pre-course activity which will help you prepare for the session.

At the end of this course, attendants will:

  • understand the basic principles of assessment;
  • understand what assessment is, levels of assessment and the types of assessment methods; and
  • be equipped with the skills to effectively assess Agored Cymru units and qualifications. (Please refer to the relevant qualification guide to check specific assessor requirements)

Please note: You must attend this course before attending the Introduction to Internal Quality Assurance course.

This is a non-accredited course but you will receive a certificate of attendance.

Participants

This course is suitable for any recognised Agored Cymru centre staff who are new to assessing Agored Cymru units/qualifications or as a refresher for Agored Cymru assessors who have not delivered courses recently.

Newly recognised centres are entitled to 4 free training places which can be used for the Introduction to Assessment and Introduction to IQA sessions, to be used in the first 12 months after becoming a recognised centre.

Additional places can be booked subject to availability at a cost of £50 per person.

Assessors do not currently need to have a formal assessment qualification to assess Agored Cymru units/qualifications, unless stated in the qualification guide or unit specification.  However, Agored Cymru strong recommends that assessors work towards formal accreditation. (e.g. Agored Cymru Level 3 Award in Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment).
