Paul Martin

Paul Martin joined the Board in 2017 as an appointed member. He is Chairperson of the Finance and General Purposes Committee.

Paul has over 30 years’ experience in education and finance. He left Cardiff University in the early 1980s to join a Newport-based firm of chartered accountants.  A few years later, he moved to work for a multinational Japanese company based in the Heads of the Valleys area as their assistant director of finance.

In 1984 Paul entered further education as a lecturer in accounting and finance at Aberdare College. He subsequently joined the University of Glamorgan as a senior lecturer, specialising in financial accounting and reporting.

In 1994 Paul joined the senior management team at Ystrad Mynach College as the director of student services and MIS.  Two years later he was appointed as vice principal (finance and resources) and in 2006 became the deputy principal responsible for finance, planning and estates.  When Ystrad Mynach College and Coleg Morgannwg merged in 2013, Paul took over as the deputy principal with responsibility for corporate services.  Paul had played a major role in managing the merger on behalf of Ystrad Mynach College.

In August 2015, Paul decided to take early retirement. However, he has not left education completely; in addition to being a board member of Agored Cymru, Paul is also an associate tutor at Cardiff Metropolitan University.
