Agored Cymru's Essential Skills Wales (ESW) qualifications support the development of skills needed for education, work and life and are aimed at those accessing learning in a wide range of environments outside of mainstream school.
Essential Skills Wales and Wider Key Skills have merged to form one suite of Essential Skills qualifications at levels ranging from Entry 1 to Level 3.
Agored Cymru is one of a small number of Awarding Bodies now able to offer the qualifications.
What are the changes?
- Essential Application of Number Skills (AON) and Essential Communication Skills will now be assessed by a controlled task and confirmatory test at level 1, level 2 and level 3
- Essential Digital Literacy Skills has replaced ICT
- Essential Employability Skills has replaced Wider Key Skills
- Digital Literacy and Essential Employability Skills are to be included in the Essential Skills for Work and Life Qualifications
Some learners may need additional time in order to gain all of the required skills. The Essential Skills for Work and Life qualifications provide an opportunity to focus specifically on the skills needed in communication, AON and digital literacy at all levels.
